Hello there dear readers, welcome back again to my blog. I’ve been so busy these past few weeks thinking of what post to make. But today after so many delays, i decided to discuss about this topic. This idea really made me excited to discuss it with you.
God cannot be mocked
This is what we learned in the 10 commandments. “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.-Exodus 20:7″ We often see trash talk fighters would dished out and use profane words even to the point of insulting God.
Offensive in God’s holiness, but some boxers don’t care. They are full of themselves and make God of themselves. There’s a lot of story in the bible, where we can see what could lead that to.
Take for example Nebuchadnezzar in the book of Jeremiah, he became too proud when became powerful and wealthy, he became crazy for 7 years. God in his compassion and grace, gave him another chance and Nebuchadnezzar came to his senses again and he humbled himself and acknowledge the Lord and he became well again. God restored him back.
Some fighters in today’s era, are doing a lot of noise in the boxing just to get noticed. They say it will help a lot in promotion. When we say promotion, it means business which is “money”.
Whether good or bad publicity, it is still publicity. That’s the golden rule in Public Relations. This is somewhat we are not accustomed to listen to, but it is the definition of it.
The sports of boxing is like going to war. You have only 1 opponent to fight and have to finish 8 or 12 rounds. Your life is at risk and it make or break you.
Over the course of time, boxing has become a more business inclined approach and somewhat adopt to the marketing and strategy in gaining more success in the fights and promoting the fight and their fighter.
Does sinning actually make a fighter lose?
We’ll it depends. If a person confess to God and ask for forgiveness, this might change the course of his career. This will make a huge impact.
Sinning before a fight might also change the course of his fight. It can make or break him. There are 2 lessons he will learn a long the way. If he wins, or if he lose, he will make a realization.
Is boxing a gift or a curse?
In any other sport, this is somewhat the most crucial questions to some athlete to deal with. Many doesn’t know about the reason behind.
In the context of sports, boxing falls in the category of talent. Gift in the bible refers to, prophecy, speak in tounge, healing, etc that bears the fruit of the Holy Spirit. This can found in Rom. 12:6-8, 1Cor. 12:1-11, which helps in building up the church (people).
Whereas when it comes to talent, it is also a gift endowed to a person but through other means that can be used like sports, specifically boxing. Lets take for example the parables in the bible. This is how it explained about the gift.
The Parable of 3 servants – Mat.25:14-20
14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. 15 He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.
16 “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. 17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. 18 But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.
19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’
21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’
23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’
26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, 27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’
28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. 30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
There we see some wisdom in this parable. The Lord had given us gift in proportion to our ability. The gift was used by the two, while the other hid it. He was not a good and faithful servant. He received a punishment. He didn’t use his gift well. He was thrown in hell.
Boxing has responsibility to carry
Indeed in this sport, there’s a lot of sacrifices to make. The boxer has to take seriously the talent given and used it right. Remember when David has to go through battles? He sets a rule first before engaging in war to be victorious. He lead his army by going into praying and fasting and the men will not make sexual contact with their wife. Because the power is there in being pure and undefiled all throughout the temporary sacrifices offered to God is counted as battles, that needs to take place before going to war.
Likewise in the sport of boxing, you have to set yourself first focus on your goal, no distractions, spend time with the Lord. He is with you in every battle and you are not alone. Therefore the pre and post fight, you should also put him first.
In the sports of boxing, let us remember that it’s a war not just physical but also spiritual. It seems we have been a thousand years apart compared to what battles the servant of God had to go through. But it was the same battles they also expereinced, the physical and spirirtual, that we also have this day.
Let us always bear in mind that power doesn’t come from us. It is a gift endowed to each one of us. Its not because of training and having the best coach or any other factor. Not many of us know to handle the gift. Some just waste it away and only realized when its already too late.
I think boxers, needs to consider that beyond their over all ability and their strength, they also need Jesus. The same Holy Spirit that had helped our forefathers in the past, is also with us today.
Things to avoid in every fight to win?… Read God’s word. Its there. The key is there. Have faith and believe.
God bless everyone.Subscribe to BOXING STATUS by Email
